50mm Latty Rotary Union Overhaul

Latty Rotary

This 50mm Latty Rotary Union was sent in for overhaul from a beverage plant in South Carolina. It had a Carbon seal face running against a Tungsten Carbide seat. The Carbon seal face was worn and required replacement. The Tungsten seat was cleaned & relapped flat. The springs were broken and some missing. The internal lower steady bushing was also worn.

Robco dimensionalized all parts and layed out on the CAD to check internal clearances and calculate the most suitable seal face loading which would be supplied by the new springs we had fabricated. We did see some issues in regards to internal clearances and we carried out machine work to improve seal runout capabilities.

New bearings were installed. Mechanical Seal unit was re-assembled and pressure tested to 60 PSIG for 15 min. with no pressure drop. Unit was returned to end user in South Carolina and is back in operation.

Work Rendered

Rotary Union arrived at our Texas repair facility.

Rotary Union taken apart for inspection.

Interior of main housing showing the worn lower steady bushing. We will machine new bushing that will have press fit in housing and a suitable I.D. clearance over the rotary sleeve.

This is the rotary Tungsten seat and stationary carbon seal face in holder. New carbon to be machined & Installed / lapped flat. New Springs to be fabricated.

The rotary seal sleeve has wear in the area it rotates inside the steady bushing, requires re-machine & polish.

This is the worn internal steady bushing in the main housing. Robco to machine replacement with correct clearance around rotary sleeve.

New bearings being installed on the rotary seal sleeve.
